Tanzania opens domain name registration under its “.TZ” domain
Just because there are only a few new extensions left to be launched does not mean that new registration opportunities are drying up!
A different continent but a similar launch program: after Australia, it’s Tanzania’s turn to open the registration of its national extension “.TZ” at the second level.
Since March 1st 2022, it is possible to register a domain name directly under “.TZ”, and not necessarily under one of the proposed sub-domains such as “.CO.TZ”.
From March 1st to May 31st: First priority phase
During this period, only the following will be eligible to register a .TZ domain name
Holders of a domain name registered prior to March 1st 2022 under the .CO.TZ, .OR.TZ or .MOBI.TZ
Holders of a registered trademark that does not need to be local
These applicants will be able to apply for the registration of a name corresponding to the domain, or to the trademark held.
From 1st to 30th June: Priority to new holders
During this phase, only holders of a domain name registered under a sub-domain between March 1st and May 31st 2022 will be able to apply for the registration of the corresponding domain name under .TZ.
In case of multiple applications for the same domain name during the same period, priority will be given to the first applicant.
From 1 July 2022 :
Open to all on a “first come, first served” basis
Abolition of local presence
Until now it was necessary to have a local contact in Tanzania, which SafeBrands provides free of charge. From now on it will no longer be necessary to have any local presence, making the extension open to all, without restriction.
